Last summer, PRIME rocked the foundations of the pro wrestling world with Colossus III, blowing the roof off of Raymond James Stadium in mid August (well, Raymond James Stadium doesn’t have a roof, but you get the point).
Nearly 90,000 people filled the Stadium to capacity, anxiously soaking up every amazing moment of the biggest show in PRIME'’ illustrious history.
Millions more watched from home, snatched up the record-selling DVD… anyway they could find to view the show regarded by many as the greatest of its time.
Now, nearly one year later, the summer season is once again upon us, and Colossus IV is just around the corner.
Today, Blaine Blair announced to the world just how far off that corner is.
“Mark your calendars for August 5th!”
In a press conference held this morning at PRIME headquarters, CEO Blaine Blair announced the date and location of this year’s Colossus.
The date: August 5th, 2007
The place: Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington.
“Last year, we rocked the southeastern part of the country.” Blair stated, “This year, we’ll head up to the beautiful Northwest and do it all over again.”
Indeed, PRIME is looking forward to big things, coming off the most successful show in the company’s history, and one of the greatest events in the pro wrestling industry’s long and storied existence. CIII set attendance records for PRIME, as well as records for merchandise sales, PPV buys and gate sales. The DVD release in the following November also became one of the best selling wrestling DVDs of all time.
“A lot of people made a lot of money and gained a lot of fame thanks to CIII.” Blair said with a smile this morning. “We’re fully confident that much the same will be the case this year, and Seattle is the perfect place for us to try and top CIII with CIV.”
Officials noted that, due to Seattle’s often wet weather, the roof of Safeco Field would indeed be closed in an effort to avoid the rain that soaked last year’s main event (though some say it added the perfect atmosphere to the end of the night). Also, despite a general capacity of 47,000… CIV should be able to seat over 55,000 when all is said and done.
Other News and Notes
- ReV 129 was considered a “solid success” by Lisa Tyler and PRIME officials. The matches were top notch, and the Night of Champions theme helped the FX network and PRIME pull in their second highest rating (behind only ReV 100) since their partnership began in early 2006.
- With OverKill less than two weeks away, only the eight-person main event tag match has been officially announced, though several other matches have started to take shape and official announcements should be made this Wednesday on ReVolution 130.
- Speaking of ReV 130, the show’s main event will see PRIME’s first ever Grand Slam champ put his 5 Star title on the line, as Killean Sirrajin defends against former Alias Champion, Easton Hall. Officials felt Hall deserved the rematch given his stellar performance thus far in PRIME, coupled with the fact that he was not involved in the pinfall decision at 129.
- PRIME still had no comment on their doctors’ decision to clear Dusk for competition at ReVolution 129.
- Both Nova and Lindsay Troy were said to be quite banged up following their grueling match up in New Orleans. Troy, however, told officials the next day that she would be fine and won’t have any problems putting on another clinic at OverKill.
- Rumors are floating around that Tchu was livid at Blair and Tyler’s decision to suspend him until OverKill. Apparently, the former two-time Universal Champion was furious that he would be suspended for his actions despite the fact that FU had been doing much the same for the previous few months without any consequences. Since his suspension following ReV 127, Tchu has had no contact with anyone in PRIME other than Lindsay Troy. The details of their discussion are unknown.
- It appears PRIME and Shawn Stewart have parted ways. No word on the motives behind the move.
- Blaine Blair was adamant about expanding PRIME’s roster, hence the rush of new signings and returning superstars. And more seem to be on their way. “You can never grow satisfied. Expanding the roster keeps things fresh as business moves forward.” Blair stated.
- There had been word leaked about a possible returning PRIME legend, though the rumor was quickly squashed by PRIME front offices. “It’d be news to me, and if it’s news to me, it’s probably not true” said one anonymous PRIME official.
- Look for the UltraViolence 2007 DVD to hit store shelves on June 29th. PRIME plans to promote the product with the slogan “See the show many are comparing to CIII” in hopes of boosting the DVD’s sale to record levels.
- Also, PRIME is expected to release of series of DVDs over the coming months. Stay tuned for more details!
